Cotton
We’ve set a goal of using only sustainably sourced cotton in our collections by 2025. As signatories of Textile Exchange’s Sustainable Cotton Challenge, we pledge to source this cotton through organic and recycled sources, or through our Better Cotton membership, the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world, which aims to improve cotton farming globally. The goal is to make Better Cotton a viable mainstream commodity, ensuring the sustainable production of cotton that is better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. As well as sourcing more sustainable cotton for our products, we are pleased that all Mulberry care bags are now sourced with responsible cotton – either through our Better Cotton membership or through another Textile Exchange preferred cotton method.
ECONYL®
Mulberry collections are free from virgin nylon, which we have replaced with sustainable alternatives, including the innovative ECONYL® fibre. ECONYL® is crafted from nylon waste which otherwise pollutes the Earth, such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring, and industrial plastic. It can be remoulded and recycled again and again, creating a closed loop regeneration process.
Scotchgrain
Our heritage Scotchgrain material has been a key part of Mulberry collections for decades, and can be seen in our collections and collection updates today as part of our use of bio-synthetic materials. This innovative material repurposes inedible cereal waste to recreate the same hard-wearing, lightweight characteristics of our cult-status luggage, and is blended with responsibly sourced viscose (certified by the Forest Stewardship Council) and recycled polyester to create a new BioVeg material.
Sunglasses
Innovative bio-acetate frames are included in our eyewear collection, and for AW23 they accounted for 100% of the range. This biodegradable and recyclable cellulose material is gained from renewable resources such as seed fibres derived from cotton, and wood fibres derived from conifers and deciduous trees. The sunglasses also feature nylon bio-lenses, a material derived from the castor plant. We continue to work with our supply chain to transform more of our range to use more sustainable materials.
FSC®
Our diary, planner and agenda inserts have been FSC® certified since 2019. This means the paper and card has been sourced from responsibly managed forests under the Forest Stewardship Council’s chain of custody. The FSC® aims to maintain forest biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes, as well as incentivising local people to sustain the forest resources and adhere to long-term management plans. As well as our diary, planner and agenda inserts, we also source FSC® certified paper and card for our Mulberry Green packaging.
